In one way or another Mankind has always found reason to celebrate or commemorate significant moments in time. Birthdays, name's days, religious and cultural holidays, memorial days. It is an intergral part of human life. The celebration of a plentyful harvest has probably been going on ever since we established farming and in most western countries it is still a highpoint of the fall. The theme this week is...

IAW CLXXXVIII - Toys And Games

Good morning from Sweden.

Ever since the very first children looked out of the cave entrance and wondered what to do that day I suppose that their parents - in one way or another - tried to create some kind of toys or make up games to keep the little ones busy while the grownups dealt with the every day run of things in the life of the group. As time passed the toys got all the more advanced and well made, but the games usually, pretty much stayed the same. The simplest is, of course, any activity which involves throwing or kicking something. But as we all know children's entertainments have grown ever more advanced from the 70s and onwards with the advent of the game console, the computor and the cellphone.

IAW CLXXXV - Arts And Crafts

Greetings from Sweden!

Since time immemorial Man has been working with the hands to while away the hours when sitting byt the fire in the cave or cottage. The stitching together of pieces of skin, carving wooden idols and eating utensils and bowls of wood and ceramics were probably among the first examples of handicraft. Then came metal, real textiles and glas. Now a substantial number of people all over the world is engaged in the various forms of handicraft. I find it wonderful that this kind of thing is still alive in the cultures of world and that it hasn't died away due to the relentless pursuit by man of things digital . Hope this will prove to be a enjoyable challenge for you, my dear IAWers. Looking forward to seeing your entries. Enjoy!

IAW CLXXXII - Language

Greetings from Sweden!

Since many swedish children comes in contact with English an early age. I was fortunate to begin studying it in 4th Grade, when I was nine years old. When I was thirteen I read JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings for the first time. Even though it was quite a challenge, I enjoyed it very much. As the years passed and I continued to read, listen and speak English my ability got steadily better and now I can, with some pride, say that I am fluent. So the week's theme is Language. Hope you'll enjoy this challenge. Im looking forward to see your entries. Enjoy!

IAW CLXXIX - Astrology - Your Sign & It's Various Attributes

Greetings from Sweden!

Astrology has since time immemorial been a mainstay of the cultural influences that affect how we live and how we are. Kings, queens and leaders have trusted to spiritual advicers in the interpretation of the positions of the stars, the moon and the planets and how that affects the life of the royalty, the land and the people. Even today many people read the daily or weekly horoscopes in magazines and perhaps how they will affect their lives - hopefully in a positive direction.

June 22 - July 3

If you were born between the 22nd of June and the 3rd of July, the power of the Moon is exceedingly strong in your case. Your moods will shift very powerfully in keeping with the phases of the moon, and to understand yourself more adequately, why not keep a calendar of the lunar phases so you can be a step ahead of what’s happening. Your romance and love life perfectly reflects who you are, particularly because you are so capable of nurturing others.

Images And Words Week 177 - Make Your Own Painting

Greetings from Sweden!

I have always had a liking of art. Especially the kind that shows something real - like a person, an animal, a tree or a building. Photography is an art in itself the aim being to portray something from one's own point of view. This weeks theme is Make Your Own Painting - from one of your photos. Hope you'll find this an exciting and fun challenge. Looking forward to seeing your entries. Have fun!

This is originally a photo taken on the way in the forest in which I bike back and forth on the to and from town.
